Donkey
Frog
Mantis shrimp (but not the deadly ones -- smaller ones)
Sea snails
Scorpions
Duck
Goose (yes I had never had either before this year)
Abalone
So many kinds of fish I'd never had before
In other news, so many things here are taro flavored. Or red bean flavored. Or milk flavored. I like the red bean bread in the grocery store downstairs, and the taro-filling steamed buns at the steamed bun place. I wish there were more things with black sesame filling, because that's my favorite, but it's not common. Here.
Hopefully this next year will be full of interesting and hopefully also delicious new things to eat. And hopefully I'll learn to cook more of the things available to me that I currently just don't know what to do with.
May your new year also be full of delicious foods and good company to eat them in!
Gideon went to town on the scorpions. It was impressive.
Mark considers a fried scorpion before eating it. I think it was a lot like eating fried bugs, like locusts or grasshoppers. .... I guess I'll have to try them sometime to find out.
Jack considers half a duck brain before he eats it. He said it was really REALLY squishy. I didn't try it.
